Varied work, one purpose.
It has been a busy week, with a lot of varied work which has been great. I learned the value of varied work while with NSPCC, when, years ago, I had the opportunity to split my time between direct work and training. It soon became clear to me that there were benefits for myself in having that variety, and also for my work, as my work experience informed the training I was developing and delivering, which in turn gave me an understanding of how CSA is viewed by others: professionals and also communities. This week has involved every aspect of my work, from direct work with children, (who are amazing)! to developing bespoke training programmes for professionals, and also consultancy, giving advice and guidance about complex cases. All of these inform and enrich the other. I have also been spreading the word of my work and the different aspects of it, ensuring that children and young people can avail of the support they need, locally but also looking at how I can share the knowledge and understanding I have of trauma and CSA trauma, with professionals and also communities. We all need to be aware and informed, CSA is a public health issue and so this week I’ve had the opportunity to think outside the box and look at other groups in the community that could benefit from my training. I also got on my soapbox quite a bit- nothing new there, i never leave home without it!
